Sultan of Brunei

AboutQuotes Trivia
Born on: 15th Jul 46
Born in: Malaysia
Marital status: Married
Occupation: Sultan of Brunei
There are many rich and famous people in the world, but not everyone knows the art to splurge it. However, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, better known as the Sultan of Brunei is one such person who is well versed with this art of spending the riches in the most lavish ways. One of the last remaining absolute monarchs in the world, Sultan has earned enough from reserves of oil and natural gas, that he doesn't have to think twice about getting a haircut for a mind-boggling $21,000. His sultanate is one of the world’s most financially affluent and communally sheltered societies, where people even do not have to pay any kind of income tax.
The Sultan's passion for the world's most expensive, beautiful, rarest, fastest and unique cars knows no boundaries. His personal collection of over 7,000 high performance cars, which by some estimates is worth more than $5 billion includes 600 Rolls Royce cars, over 300 Ferraris,134 Koenigeggs, 11 McLaren F1s, 6 Dauer Porsche 962 LMs and a number of luxurious Jaguars. He is famous for having some of the most luxuriously customized private jets like Boeing 747-400 and Airbus 340-200. In late 1980s, for once he was ranked as world’s richest person but later on in 1990s he lost the title to the American businessman Bill Gates. Sultan’s current asset evaluation is about $40 billion and if the income keeps on growing at the current rate his eldest son might soon be the world’s first trillionaire. Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah got married in 1965 to one of his cousins Pengiran Anak Saleha and became the new new ruler on October 5, 1967, and was coronated on August 1, 1968. Later on he got separated and got married to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha.

lamborghini factory tour review

HI-RES GALLERY: Lamborghini factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese

Lamborghini’s factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese is a very special place, not only because it’s where some of the world’s best supercars are born but because it’s also where dreams come true.

Half a century ago it was where one man, Ferruccio Lamborghini, dreamt of building a world-class sports car.

Today, the factory serves as a place of pilgrimage for sports car fans from all across the globe, dreaming of one day owning their own Lamborghini. And, for a rare few, the men and women at Lamborghini strive to make those dreams a reality.

So, as Lamborghini gets ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary, we decided to make our own pilgrimage to Sant'Agata and took along the camera aces at AutoEmotionenTV and eazy-entertainment to bring you this video.

Lamborghini has several facilities located at the site of its factory, including its headquarters, prototyping center, lightweight construction center, official museum and store.

The company also builds all of its models here, with the latest being the Gallardo and Aventador supercars. Production takes place on two completely separate lines, at a rate of just 11 cars per week.

Of the separate centers, one of the most exciting is the lightweight construction center. It is here that the full carbon fiber monocoque for the Aventador is built.

For Lamborghini, it is the intensive application of carbon fiber that forms the foundation for its future lineup, and in this field the company has developed its own technologies for everything from design to engineering and final validation and production.

It is also here that Lamborghini’s unique Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) carbon fiber production process is executed. In this process carbon fiber mats are preformed and impregnated with an exact amount of resin. Afterwards, they are cured under heat while the part is in the mold.

Using the patented “RTM-Lambo” process, the final mold is no longer a heavy, complex metal piece, but is made instead from lightweight carbon-fiber parts, thus making the manufacturing process faster, more flexible and more efficient. An additional benefit of the RTM-Lambo process is the low injection pressure that doesn’t require expensive equipment.

Soon, the Gallardo’s successor will also benefit from carbon fiber construction, though Lamborghini is tight with details here. It’s thought that the new car will use a variation of Audi’s “Multi-Material” platform design that combines several different materials including aluminum and fiberglass in addition to carbon fiber.

We know the plant will be gearing up soon to start production of the Gallardo successor.

Another important center at the Lamborghini factory is the company's official museum. Here you can see some of Lamborghini’s greatest cars, including the likes of the 350 GT, Countach, LM 02 and Reventon. You’ll also find some of Lamborghini’s concept cars like the original Miura and the more recent Estoque.

If you ever head to Northern Italy, the Lamborghini factory in Sant'Agata should be on your list of places to visit. It doesn’t hurt that the scenery of the surrounding Emilia-Romagna region is breathtaking, as you’ll see in this previous video.

How Waxing Your Car to A Perfect Shine

THE PERFECT SHINE PROCESS

How do detailers get cars looking so picture-perfect?  "What wax do you use?" and "What's the best black car wax?" are the questions that come up most often.  Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple.
If you want the perfect shine, you have to do a little work, and you have to work to keep it maintained.  If your car's paint is relatively new and in excellent condition, getting the perfect shine will be far less work than with a car that's five or more years old with heavy oxidation.
The classic car polishing process I'm about to explain came from years of experimenting with dozens of car polish and wax combinationsto discover what products produced the best results.  As it happens, this process was discovered quite by accident after applying a carnauba wax over a synthetic sealant on a Guards Red Porsche 944 Turbo. The finish was noticeably deeper, richer and more vibrant.  The paint had taken on a new depth, like it had a clearcoat finish.
The Perfect Shine classic car polishing and detailing process was born. Grab your auto detailing supplies and let's get started! Although this process works well on all cars, it has the most dramatic effect on dark colors

SIX PERFECT SHINE REQUIREMENTS

The perfect shine car polish and wax process means your car's paint finish is in good condition, free of surface contamination, polished, glazed, protected and waxed.  Let's look at each of these requirements individually.

Good Paint Condition

For the first 12 to 18 months of a new car's life, the paint is relatively oxidation-free and in good condition.  If you maintain your new car's paint with regular washing and protection, oxidation will remain minimal, and cleaning the paint will be a minor task.  At a minimum, you should wash your car weekly  If you don't have time to wash weekly, use the Quick Detailing process.

Contamination-free

As you drive your car, debris from the road (i.e., tar, oil, bugs, etc.) will lodge itself on your car's paint.  The longer this debris is allowed to remain, the more difficult it is to remove.  This is just one reason that regular washing with quality shampoo and other auto detailing supplies is so important.  While outside, your car will also collect other contamination.  (Birds, bugs and neighborhood kids seem to have a natural attraction to beautiful cars.)  These contaminants must be removed; you can't wax over them and expect to get a show car finish.

Polished

Polishing is necessary to remove minor blemishes, including surface scratches, swirl marks, pitted areas (minor road stone nicks) and scuffs.  When polished, the paint finish will feel perfectly smooth.  Your hand and polishing towel will literally glide over the surface.  Feeling a perfectly polished car is a stimulating experience for most car nuts.  There's nothing quite like the polished fenders of a curvaceous Porsche, Ferrari, Viper or Corvette.

Glazed

Glaze is a term that's grossly misused in detailing products.  Glazes are paint treatments used to fill small surface scratches and swirl marks.  To a painter, glaze is the term used to describe the process of restoring full paint gloss.  In The Perfect Shine, ultra-fine polishes and other similar auto detailing supplies are used to refine the paint finish to achieve or restore full gloss.

Protected

Paint is protected when it's sealed from the elements and synthetic sealants offer the best protection.  Synthetic coatings are five to ten times more durable than the carnauba waxes.  They offer extended protection from the elements and create a super-slick surface.  In The Perfect Shine process, the synthetic protection is an acrylic sealant.  I have not found a polymer sealant that works.  I will explain why later.

Waxed

Waxing is the final step of The Perfect Shine.  We're not talking just any wax here; we're talking about a pure, natural carnauba wax.  Pure carnauba waxes don't have cleaning properties or synthetic compounds added.  They are made from a blend of carnauba waxes, beeswax and natural oils.  A quality show car wax gives paint depth and warmth.  I know, I know, it sounds like we're talking about a fine wine or something.  Just don't underestimate the value of a great show car wax when it comes to the final results of your car's finish.

THE PERFECT SHINE

The Perfect Shine is a simple process that reliably achieves the best shine possible on any paint finish.  Grab the auto detailing supplies listed here and follow these steps and product recommendations:
Step 1: Wash & Dry
Wash your car twice with a high concentration of car wash solution.  I recommend a gloss shampoo.  If your car is excessively dirty, you can use Dawn dish-washing liquid.  If you do, be sure to rinse thoroughly.

Use a quality car wash.  If your car is really dirty, like this Honda S2000, mix a strong batch of wash water.

Step 2: Detailing Clay
After washing and drying, examine your car's paint with your hand.  If the paint is not perfectly smooth, use apaint-cleaning clay system and clay lubricant to remove the surface contamination. Inspect your clay frequently to check for hard particles, which should be picked out.  Re-mold the clay when it gets dirty to expose fresh clay.

Use plenty of Sonus Glyde Clay Lubricant and rub the clay lightly over the paint finish.  Use a Sonus Der Wunder Polishing Towel to dry and buff the freshly cleaned paint.

Step 3: Repair Paint Damage
When the paint is clean and free of surface contamination, examine again for minor surface damage.  If you find heavy scuffs or surface scratches, repair these flaws with a fine rubbing compound or scratch remover, like Sonus SFX-1 Restore Polish.  If your paint has swirl marks and other minor micro marring, use a swirl remover polish, like Sonus SFX-2 Enhance Polish.  You can polish by hand or machine.  Working by machine tends to work faster and deliver better results.

As you can see in this photo, the swirls, cob web effect and surface scratches are so bad that the paint finish looks dull and flat.

Step 4: Restore Finish Clarity
Now it's time to glaze your paint to bring out its full gloss potential.  For this I recommend a swirl-remover polish formula like Sonus SFX-2 Enhance Polish.  Swirl-remover polishes are designed to remove fine swirl marks, not the heavy paint damage removed in the previous step.  If your paintwork is already in perfect condition, you can skip this step.

Here the entire car was polished with Sonus SFX-2 Enhance Polish and then followed with Sonus SFX-3 Final Finish to bring out this crystal clear finish.  The Sonus Der Wunder Microfiber Polishing Towel buffs off the polish residue with ease and won't put swirls back in the paint finish.
Step 5: Seal and Protect
Once perfectly polished, your paint is ready to be sealed.  This is a great time to a product that's been protecting cars for years, Klasse All-In-One.  The Klasse AIO acrylic formula has proven its quality again and again.
Klasse All-In-One is a one-step acrylic resin that cleans, lightly polishes and protects paint with a durable acrylic finish.  The best way to apply Klasse All-In-One is with a microfiber applicator.  Klasse All-In-One contains cleaners that remove previous layers of Klasse All-In-One.
If you wish to apply additional Klasse acrylic protection, you can apply one or more coats of Klasse Sealant Glaze.  Klasse Sealant Glaze does not contain cleaners; it is a pure acrylic sealant.  Additional layers of Klasse Sealant Glaze will increase protection and finish depth.

Step 6: Make it Pop!

You're almost there.  The final step, the literal icing on the cake, is show car wax.  You may be asking, "After polishing and sealing, why wax?"  The answer lies in the richness of color, depth and clarity that only a high-quality carnauba wax can bring out on a polished surface.  For this job I reach for P21S Carnauba Wax.  P21S Carnauba Wax is a true show car wax.
Compared to other show car waxes of similar formula, for the money P21S offers the best final finish.  P21S Carnauba Wax brings out a warmth and depth on red and yellow that I have not been able to duplicate with any other wax under $70 per can.  It's by far the best black car wax - on black and dark blue cars, the paint looks like a reflection in a pool of water.
On steps four through six, I use a quality foam applicator to apply product (except Klasse Sealant Glaze, which requires a microfiber applicator).  For final buffing of the P21S Carnauba Wax, I use a Sonus Der Wunder

The final Perfect Shine results on this Honda S2000 are nothing less than stunning.  Classic car polishing is worth the time and energy - a full day of hard work, but the results speak for themselves.  This sports car is ready to show!

Volvo v8 suportscar superstar

FINALLY, here she is.

Neither a box on wheels nor a DIY flatpack, Volvo blew away all those Swedish gags at the unveiling of the V8 Supercar it will debut at Clipsal 500 in two weeks.

In distinctive blue and dominant Valvoline livery, the two-car, factory-backed entry running under the Volvo Polestar Racing banner made its grand entrance to the 2014 V8 Supercars paddock at Sydney Harbour yesterday morning.
Featuring a stumpy boot true to its road-model companion, the final look of the S60 racecar powered by a 478kW Polestar-built 5.0-litre V8 engine had been a closely guarded secret.

"It's a very mean-looking car," driver and last year's V8 Supercars rookie of the year Scott McLaughlin said. "The front is a little bit shorter and the boot's a bit shorter as well, so it actually makes it look quite phat.
"It's awesome."

"I'm just honestly looking forward to getting out there and giving it a red-hot crack." It's entry under new car of the future specifications makes Volvo the fifth manufacturer in Australia's most popular motorsport category, joining Ford, Holden, Nissan and Mercedes. The national touring car series has not been so diverse in terms of makers since it ran under previous international rules in 1992.

The cars, to be piloted by McLaughlin and Robert Dahlgren, have had only straight-line aerodynamic testing of their Volvo shell ahead of tomorrow's official test day at Sydney Motorsport Park.

"This is a historic day in the history of Volvo Car Australia," Volvo Car Australia managing director Matt Braid said. "As the first luxury car manufacturer to enter V8 Supercars with a factory team, we're delighted to reveal our Volvo S60 race car to meet the challenge of the world's toughest touring car series and strengthen the presence of the S60 model line - and Volvo brand - here in Australia." The season begins at the Clipsal 500 on February 27.

World's fastest Bugatti Only making 50 bandrol $1.3 million Veyron

Yours for just $1.3 million: the Bugatti 16.4 Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse "Jean-Pierre Wimille"

It's the season of giving...and if you're planning on giving away a $1.3 million Bugatti Veyron, you better hurry up!
Only 50 examples of the multi-million dollar hypercar are left and when the final one is sold, production will cease forever. And with the end of the 450-model production run will come the end of one of the most remarkable chapters in automotive history.
A car born out of an obsession to create the fastest, most luxurious and most exclusive supercar in history, it was the first production car with over 1000bhp, the first to go from 0-100kph in 2.45 seconds and to this day is still the fastest proven street-legal vehicle in existence -- capable of 431kph or 267.8mph. And then there's the price tag, a whopping $1.3 million (1.2 million Euros) for the ‘entry level' EB 16.4.
Yet despite the price, which has climbed significantly as horsepower and top speed have increased in the face of competition, all of the hardtop coupe editions (limited to 300 examples) have found caring owners, as have 100 open-top roadsters, and Bugatti is this week celebrating the sale of the 400th Veyron to a client in the Middle East -- a $2.9 million (2.13 million Euros) Grand Sport Vitesse ‘Jean-Pierre Wimille' special edition, which itself is limited to three examples.

Of hitting this milestone, Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber, President of Bugatti Automobiles, said: "With the Veyron, Bugatti has established itself as the most exclusive and most luxurious super sports car brand in the world. The Veyron is a unique success story and sets a high standard for the future of Bugatti."
And that's no exaggeration. The Veyron could prove an impossible act to follow, although that won't stop Bugatti from trying. But as well as replacing the Veyron, the Volkswagen-owned company is also expected to launch an equally sporty executive car that will give the Rolls-Royce Wraith, Bentley Continental Flying Spur or even the Ferrari FF a run for their money.

"Our intention was to design an exotic sports car that gracefully combines advanced technology and strong emotion," according to Jon Ikeda, principal designer of the Acura Design Center.
"The technical, machined surfaces and keen-edge design are balanced with sweeping curves and dramatic lines, all of which results in the ultimate exotic sports car."
Wide and low to the ground with a 2763mm wheelbase, the concept is anchored by grippe 19-inch front and 20-inch rear performance tires mounted to custom billet-machined, polished aluminum wheels.
Braking is via powerful, ventilated carbon ceramic brakes with eight-piston calipers. Bold wheel arches and flares add to the concept’s aggressive appearance.
The low slung cabin is constructed entirely of tinted glass and sits flush against the body. Door handles are also flush mounted, allowing the sports car to retain a clean and aerodynamic appearance.
The car has a carbon fiber under body and the rear is finished with aggressive quad exhausts and integrated rear diffusers.

Boxster are good examples of modern sports cars, each built on its own unique underbody.Sports cars have been an important part of the motoring scene for a century. Famous makers of sports cars include Aston Martin, Ferrari and Jaguar - now in the supercar class - and Porsche. Alfa Romeo, BMW, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz and TVR has also made a number of fabulous sports cars.
Brilliant sports cars from Caterham, Honda, Lotus and Porsche Some of these sports cars are produced by very small firms, and in some cases you have to do some of the assembly work yourself. Lotus is a small company that has produced some brilliant sports cars in the past, including the Seven, Eleven, Elan, Elite and Europa - and it still does so. Among these British sports cars are the Caterhams, which are modernised versions of the Lotus Seven, Morgans and Westfields. Like Caterham and Westfield, Elfin in Australia and Donkervoort in The Netherlands make high-performance sports cars of the classic type with exposed wheels. What sets sports cars apart is their low center of gravity, light weight and small size. These features give them the acceleration you expect in a sports car, and good cornering, handling and braking. They are usually fairly inexpensive compared with supercars. In fact, some like the Caterham CSR provide supercar performance - but no frills, just plain thrills.Unlike a supercar, a sports car can have quite modest performance so long as it is a two-seater - or two plus two children - and is fun to drive. Engines can be from 1.0 to 5.0 litres - bigger than that, if the car is any good it will be a supercar. Acceleration of a sports car should be better than a sedan, but these cars score mostly in cornering, braking and handling. The Mazda Miata (MX-5 in Europe, Eunos Roadster in Japan) is a small sports car that is fun to drive, as is the more spartan Lotus Elise, which is a good deal faster and handles better. In fact, any car on this site is a real sports car, and will be fun to drive. HiPo Next-Gen Mustang (S550) Prototype Spied -With Different Exhaust Setup and Sound. New Mustang Variant?

We have new pictures and video of a high performance Mustang variant prototype in testing. The prototype is outfitted with nearly all of the traits seen on the upcoming rumored-GT350 expected from the Special Vehicle Team – sporting a bulging hood, revised but covered front fascia, hood-mounted air intake and a functional vent located by the front fenders.
Noticeably missing however, is the distinct quad-exhaust setup seen on the other prototypes. This latest prototype is showing two of the exhaust outlets capped off. Also noticeable is a seemingly different exhaust note (potentially explained by the partially capped exhaust tips) which lacks the deeper throaty burble heard on the SVT prototypes heard to date. It remains to be seen whether this is just a next-gen GT350 sporting a different exhaust setup or an early prototype of a new S550-based Mustang variant.
Does this sound like a 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder turbo, the rumored flat plane crank engine or something else? Have a look & listen INSIDE and decide for yourselves.

Next idea Acura NSX Details Revealed

Tochigi, Japan -- In a quest to draw more power from its midengine V-6 Sport Hybrid All Wheel Drive and compete performance-wise with cars like the Ferrari 458, the 2015 Acura NSX will have a longitudinal engine layout. Honda showed the engine layout here ahead of the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. While the NSX "concept's" exterior design is unchanged from its last auto show iteration, the chassis reveal is new. The first Honda/Acura NSX was built with transverse midengine V-6s, first of 3.0 then of 3.2 liters.
The 2015 Acura NSX, to be badged an Acura in North America and China, and as a Honda everywhere else, is expected to get a high-output, twin-turbocharged version of the new Acura RLX sedan's 3.5-liter V-6, with an electric hybrid system working off a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The all-wheel-drive system will deliver the power for the front wheels through two electric motors.

Honda has been developing the 2015 Acura NSX at an engineering facility next to its Marysville, Ohio, assembly plant. This U.S-based engineering group pushed for the new car's longitudinal layout. The 2015 Acura NSX will be built on an assembly line in Ohio and should be in production next fall as a 2015 model.
The Japanese automaker also let journalists loose with Honda Civics powered by its new lineup of small turbocharged engines. We got two laps of the Tochigi test facility's high-speed oval in a European-spec Civic Type R "under development" and powered by a new, 280hp 2.0L turbocharged VTEC four-cylinder engine, with direct gas injection. Combined with a six-speed manual gearbox, the Civic Type R felt capable to take on any European hot hatch. It launches quickly and races through the six gears on to an electronically governed 125 mph top speed, though Honda says the car is capable of 155 mph. A red button on the dash turned up the power for our second lap in the car, making a kind of hyper-power kick. Honda wouldn't say exactly what the button does, though it clearly increases the turbo's boost. Honda also won't confirm plans for a Type R version of its North American-market Civic coupe even though it would be a natural halo for the model that has had trouble earning positive reviews in its latest iteration.

Honda says it plans to shatter the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for front-wheel-drive cars, of 8 minutes 7 seconds by breaking the 8-minute mark with a European Civic Type R.
A Honda official also hinted the 2.0L turbo could replace V-6 engine options in models like the North American Accord sedan and coupe. Honda also let us take a quick drive in a North American Accord sedan equipped with the company's unusual, new eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission with torque converter. The transmission, clearly still under development, launched with a bit of hesitation, but then quickly and smoothly ran up through its eight gears. Honda has been, until now, behind in keeping up with the competition in increasing its gear-count.
Honda also showed off a 1.0L turbocharged, direct-injection three-cylinder engine and a 1.5L turbo four from the same family. We drove both around the oval in cars equipped with the company's CVT, and found the turbo four to be a promising replacement for the non-Si Civic's 1.8L four. It has plenty of power for merging and passing, and works seamlessly with the continuously variable transmission. The 1.0 turbo three has adequate power as well, though NVH felt rough at low rpms and at idle, and it ran out of power just past the midrange. Honda didn't give a precise timeline for the engines, but it's clear the company is aiming for Ford's EcoBoost engine strategy.

Perhaps the most interesting piece of kit Honda showed is more conceptual than practical. It built a CR-Z's body entirely out of carbon-fiber. The car has two flip-up roof flaps to compensate for the carbon-fiber tub's tall rocker-panels. Building the body of carbon-fiber took 550 pounds out of the car's body-in-white weight, and on a Tochigi handling track, the car feels light and lively, like a CRX from the '80s (a car whose mention elicits high enthusiasm from engineers when mentioned in comparison with the new one-mode hybrid model). Though done strictly as an experiment, a Honda engineer said the company hopes and expects carbon-fiber costs to come down as its production becomes more mainstream.
At an interview in Tokyo the next day, Tetsuo Iwamura, Honda's executive Vice President and chief of its North American operations confirmed "at least two more models, three more models" of hybrids are planned for the U.S., beyond the coming Acura RLX and NSX SH-AWD models. He said he's like to see a car like the S660 midengine sports car concept built to meet U.S. regulations. A production version of the car, which bows at the Tokyo show Wednesday, will have a 660-cc engine. We hear the 1.0L turbo three will fit, though it's unknown whether there would be thermal issues with a turbo packaged tightly under the hood.

Best SportsCar Ferari Prototype Specifications 2009

Details Pour in for New Ferrari 599XX Dedicated Track Model

The Ferrari 599XX, now in concept stage but nearing production as a special Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano high-performance variant, is perhaps more exciting than even the hallowed Ferrari Enzo in the track performance department. While the Ferrari Enzo earns the highest marks for exclusivity and sharp-creased style, the 599XX looks like a Ferrari is expected to but taken up about 7 notches. The Fiorano on which the bold new Ferrari 599XX track car is based is not the most expensive Prancing Pony, but it is certainly the most exciting large production model from a driver's standpoint.

The 599XX is officially labeled a prototype, but industry rumors have pointed toward the new razor-sharp Ferrari track car seeing a very limited production run to "loyal Ferrari customers" or some such thing. While the engine and transmission are the same basic units found in the 599 GTB, Ferrari has raised the redline all the way up to 9000 rpm, with some new internals allowing a power increase to a cold 700 horses.
Carbon fiber is used extensively in the 599XX, even underhood, where carbon intakes and other bits save weight and add a little visual flair. The F1-style transmission also gets a reprogramming, with shift times now coming in a miniscule 60 ms, far quicker than even the most skilled clutch-and-lever operator.

The 599XX, which should be getting an official production announcement sometime in the near future, rides on 19 inch racing slicks and also a dedicated suspension different from that employed in standard 599 donor cars. Another interesting Ferrari 599XX feature is that even the brake discs are covered in carbon fiber "doughnuts", said to help with both aerodynamics and cooling. Were this not a Ferrari, they could be mistaken for something from the Autozone parts aisle.

Some serious airflow direction tricks are employed. The 599XX features fans in the trunk and synthetic jets along the rear ductwork, and even tiny wings poking out sideways just in front of the C-pillars. Not as extreme as the Enzo, but the 599XX certainly looks ready to take off and fly somewhere. 599XX pricing, if it makes a short production run after all, will be... well, you know.

Official Ferrari Press Releases

The new 599 GTB Fiorano Handling GTE Package and the world preview of the 'laboratorio tecnologico' 599XX

Maranello, 27th February 2009 – The 79th Geneva International Motor Show provides the venue for Ferrari to announce two new pieces of good news: the arrival of the sporty, dynamic Handling GT Evoluzione (HGTE) Package for the 599 GTB Fiorano and the world debut of the 599XX which is a technological laboratory aimed at a select group of clients. The latter new car incorporates the most advanced technologies resulting from Ferrari's road-going and F1 research. Many of the technological solutions it carries are being used for the first time and have been developed exclusively for this special car.

The two new arrivals will be introduced to the international media by Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo on the opening day of the Show, March 3rd, at 10 am.

In addition to the 599 GTB Fiorano equipped with the Handling GTE package and finished in a new three-layer metallic Rosso, and the 599XX in a colour matching the F2008, Ferrari clients and enthusiasts will also be able to admire this single-seater that recently won the Prancing Horse its 16th Constructors' World title. On the stand there
will also be the full range of Ferrari road cars: the Scuderia Spider 16M in a Grigio Titanio livery, the 430 Scuderia in Rosso Corsa and two Grand Tourer models, the Ferrari California in Nero Metallizzato with a Sabbia interior and the flagship 612 Scaglietti. The latter will be displayed in the Atelier, a dedicated area where owners can get a taste of the virtually endless personalisation options on offer to them.

**

While based on the 599 GTB Fiorano with the same transaxle layout and engine type, this prototype is an extreme track car. Ferrari's engineers have carried out extensive work on the engine's combustion chambers and inlet and exhaust tracts. These modifications, combined with the fact that internal attrition has been reduced and the maximum revs have been boosted to 9,000 rpm, helped achieve the target power output of 700 hp at 9,000 rpm. Particular attention was also paid to cutting the weight of the engine unit components. This was achieved both by optimising forms - as in the new crankshaft - and adopting exclusive materials, as in the carbon-fibre used for the intake plenums. A new gearbox shift strategy cuts overall gearchange times to 60 ms.

The 599XX is characterised by an innovative electronic concept called the "High Performance Dynamic Concept" which has been designed to get the maximum performance from the car by managing the combination of the car's mechanical limits with the potential of its electronic controls. The mechanical and electronic systems work together to get the maximum performance from the car under extreme high performance driving, for consistent lap times. The sporty handling has been improved thanks to the adoption of second generation SCM suspension system. Track usage is also made easier thanks to the new "virtual car engineer", a screen in the car that provides a real-time indication of the vehicle's efficiency.

The 599XX's aerodynamics were honed in numerous wind tunnel test sessions with the result that the car now boasts 280 kg of downforce at 200 km/h (630 kg at 300 km/h). The front underside of the body is completely faired-in and the vents that channel hot air from the engine bay have been moved to the bonnet.

The "ActiflowT" system increases downforce and/or cuts drag depending on the car's trim cornering conditions, courtesy of the use of a porous material in the diffuser and two fans in the boot which channel the air flow from under the car out through two grilles next to the tail-lights. Winglets have been added to the rear buttresses to increase downforce. while synthetic jets have also been incorporated into the rear of the car to control and smooth the air flow and to reduce drag.

Ferrari's engineers have also used F1-derived "doughnuts" which partly cover the brake discs and wheel rim. These have the dual function of improving both aerodynamics and brake cooling.

In terms of the bodywork, composites and carbon-fibre have been widely used and the engineers drew on their experience in working with aluminium to reach the weight target. The development of increasingly high-performance materials has also benefited the carbon-ceramic material braking system. The brake pads are now made from carbon-fibre which means that the calipers are smaller whilst guaranteeing the same efficiency. The new racing carbon ceramic braking system also delivers shorter braking distances and is generally more efficient due to the weight saving.

The 599XX comes with slick tyres (29/67 R19 Front and 31/71 R19 Rear) specifically developed to maximise stability in cornering and increase lateral acceleration. They are fitted to 19 x 11J wheel rims at the front and 19 x 12J at the rear.

seler Lamborghini Reventon on eBay Auction

Remember the Lamborghini Reventon? Of course you do. How can you possibly forget such an outrageous and unique supercar with an equally outrageous price tag of €1 million or about $1.45 million US. From the 20 examples that Lamborghini said it would build, 10 were destined for the States. One of them, and in particular Reventon number 3, arrived on this side of the Atlantic earlier this year, but after adding a mere 73 miles on the odometer, the owner decided for his own personal reasons to put the vehicle up for sale on eBay. -Continued
Surprisingly and despite the economic crunch of the stock market, the bid ended quiet quickly. We’re not sure of the exact sum that the Reventon changed hands for, but the “Buy it Now Price” on  eBay was a ridiculous $2.5 million US or about €1.7 million.

How to Add AirPlay to Your sportsCar for High Quality, Wifi Audio

I was fed up with having so many cables floating around in my car and getting tangled, and I wasn’t happy with the compressed audio quality with Bluetooth. So, I came up with an awesome wireless audio solution. If you're bold enough to pop open an Apple AirPort Express and modify its innards, here’s how to hack Apple AirPort Express to put AirPlay in your car. P

Note: Ben's original has been edited down a bit to clarify things for the non-technically-inclined, so if y
ou want the original version, go here.P

Requirements:P

AirPort Express: $99
P
Car with an aux input in the stereo and a free “cigarette lighter” power plugP
Star/Torx screwdriver: $8P
Regular screwdriver: you probably already have oneP
USB cable: we all have spares of these too!P
Some standard wiresP
5V to 3.3V DC stepdown converter: $4P
A soldering iron & some solder: $8P
Super glue: $5P
Cigarette lighter-to-USB converter: $5-$15P
A little electrical tape: $5P
1. Open the AirPort ExpressP

Okay, deep breath. First, you’ll need to modify the AirPort Express so that it draws power from a USB cable, instead of its usual household plug. In this post in the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club forum, user “enjoiful” describes one technique for this. (You might want to check out his or her photos too, for help with this part). Basically, to pop open the AirPort Express, stick your regular screwdriver in the seams at the corners and try some twisting and prying motions. It should pop open easily.P

2. Deal with the BoardsP

Unscrew all of the circuit boards from the AirPort Express. You can get rid of the L-shaped power supply, because we’re going to wire the USB power to the 5V-to-3.3V converter and use that instead.P

3. Open the CableP

Cut the USB cable, and peel the wrapping towards the larger plug (the one that normally connects to your computer), because you want to keep that side. This will reveal four wires:P

Green: USB DataP
White: USB DataP
Red: +5V DCP
Black: GroundP

4. SolderP

We're only interested in the red and black wires inside of that USB cable, because there’s no data coming over the USB cable. After threading the wires through the hole in the side of the AirPort Express (pictured above), solder the black one onto the ground of the AirPort Express (see photos below).P

Then, connect the red one to the VIN (voltage input) wire of the stepdown converter, which is green in this photo, and tape around that connection like this:

5. Super GlueP

You’ve made it through the hard part (hopefully without melting your brain or burning down your house). Congratulations! Now, you’ll want to super-glue everything into place so that it doesn’t jiggle around, potentially causing the solder to break, as you drive over your city’s pothole-riddled streets.P

6. Snap It Together and Tape Over the HoleP

Snap the AirPort Express back together. Then, use another little bit of electrical tape to seal up the hole on the edge of the AirPort Express, so that dirt and dust doesn’t get in there, like so:

7. Connect It to Your CarP

It’s time to use this thing. Put it in your car, connect the USB power cable to a cigarette lighter adapter, and plug that into your car.P

Then, take the audio cable that came with the AirPort Express and connect that to your car’s input. But wait! You’re not done yet, because you’ll need to set up the AirPort Express and your iPhone or iPad the right way (or Android, because those can totally support AirPlay, as weird as that is).P

8. Configure the AirPort ExpressP

This looks a bit convoluted, but it’s not, and you only have to do it once.P

With the AirPort Express powered up and running, fire up Apple’s AirPort Utility on your laptop, in the car. (You can also do this before tackling any of the steps above, but we wanted to make sure you make it this far before bothering with the software tweaks.) AirPort Utility will display your modified AirPort Express in a list similar to this:

Click the device and select "Edit." First, give it a name and a password so you can connect to it later to configure it.P

9. Configure your iPhone or iPad (or Android)P

How to Add AirPlay to Your Car for High Quality, Wireless Audio
You need to make your iPhone, iPad, or Android connect to the AirPort Express to send music, but to the cellular data network for everything else (including streaming music). We’re going to walk through the instructions for iOS here; Android people using these apps or these ones can apply similar principles on that platform.P

Open the iOS Settings menu, tap WiFi, and tap new AirPort Express network. This will connect the iPhone or iPad to your new car-based WiFi network — but you’ll find that because the AirPort Express doesn’t have an internet connection, the internet won’t work on your phone. But we can fix that. Tap the blue arrow next to the name of the AirPort Express WiFi network to view more options.P

From the screen (pictured at left), select "Static" as the type of IP address, and then enter the following IP address and Subnet Mask :P

IP Address : 10.0.1.4 (for example)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0P

Make sure you leave Router, DNS, and Search Domains blank! This tells the iPhone that it should use its cellular network to route internet traffic rather than trying to do it via WiFi.P

And you’re done! Just one thing to keep in mind here though: When you’re connected on your AirPort Express WiFi network, the data icon at the top of your iOS screen won’t look like the WiFi network symbol, the way it normally does when connected to WiFi. Instead, you’ll see the cellular icon—E, 3G, 4G or LTE, depending on your data plan. Never fear, your phone is actually connected to the WiFi network for the purposes of AirPlay, just like we want it to be.P
